Das Tolkien Thing ist die traditionsreichste und größte tolkienbezogene Großveranstaltung im deutschsprachigen Raum, die seit Jahren auch internationales Publikum begeistert. Das ungewöhnlich umfangreiche und abwechslungsreiches Programm ist eine der Säulen, auf die dieser Erfolg aufbaut und mit dem 12. Thing möchten wir diese Tradition fortsetzen. In loser Folge werden in den kommenden Wochen unsere Ehrengäste vorgestellt, die wir in diesem Jahr begrüßen dürfen.

Zu Kim Skovbye
Kim Skovbye ist Komponist, Texter und Dichter. Er wurde 1955 geboren und wuchs in einer künstlerisch motivierenden Umgebung im Zentrum Kopenhagens auf. Bereits mit jungen Jahren lernte er Gitarre zu spielen und hat sich seitdem zu einem Multiinstrumentalisten entwickelt, der u.a. Geige, Bouzouli, Mandoline, Querflöte, Cello, Keyboards und die keltische Harfe beherrscht, die zu seinem bevorzugten Instrument geworden ist.
Kims Bezug zu Tolkien ist offensichtlich, denn er hat in den letzten Jahren mehrere Alben mit Bezug zu Mittelerde aufgenommen: There and Back again (1997, mit Bezug zum Hobbit), The Ring, Vol. I (2001, mit Liedern aus dem Herr der Ringe), The Ring, Vol. II (2003, mit weiteren Liedern aus dem Herr der Ringe) und die Tolkien Collection (2004, enthält die drei vorherigen CDs.) Er war 1997 Gast beim Oxonmoot unserer englischen Muttergesellschaft im Exeter College, wo J.R.R. Tolkien studiert hat, und begeistert die Fans mit seinem Konzert – einer der vielen Gründe, warum wir ihn einladen. Seine keltisch-inspirierte Musik wird ebenso zu gefallen wissen wie sein Tolkien-Repertoire.

The Tolkien Thing is the largest and most traditional Tolkien-related event in the German-speaking areas drawing also an international crowd (“Thing” is the German word for “moot”.) Its long list of diverse programme items is one of the reasons for its success and with Thing no. 12 we are aiming at improving again on this tradition. In the next couple of weeks we will be introducing our guests of honour of Tolkien Thing XII.

About Kim Skovbye
Kim Skovbye is a composer, songwriter and poet. He was born in 1955, and grew up in an artist´s environment in central Copenhagen. Kim began to play guitar at an early age, he has grown into a multi instrumentalist that plays numerous instruments such as violin, bouzouki, mandolin, flutes, cello, keyboards and the celtic harp, that has become his chosen instrument.
Kim’s relation with Tolkien is pretty obvious as he has issued a number of albums on Middle-earth in the last couple of years: There and Back again (1997, about the Hobbit), The Ring, Vol. I (2001, songs from Lord of the Rings), The Ring, Vol. II (2003, more songs from Lord of the Rings) und die Tolkien Collection (2004, includes all three preceding albums.) He was a guest of honour at our mother society’s Oxonmoot in 1997 playing a packed Exeter College (Tolkien studied there) and won over the fans’ hearts – one of the many reasons why we have invited him. His music inspired by celtic themes will be as welcome as his Tolkien repertoire.
