Tolkien Seminar 2026: New Website and Free Online Registration

Looking up at the green tops of trees

The Tolkien Seminar now has its own website! Visit https://tolkien-seminar.com for information about this year’s conference in English, or https://tolkien-seminar.de for the German version. Alongside the updated program, you can now register on the website to join the conference online free of charge.

From 16 to 18 October 2026, the 22nd Tolkien Seminar of the German Tolkien Society will take place at the Umweltbildungszentrum Augsburg. This year’s theme is “Environment, Ecosphere, Community: Tolkien and Enworldment”. The conference welcomes everyone interested in exploring Tolkien’s works, whether you are a researcher, a student or a curious fan.

The updated programme features 33 talks across twelve sections, with presentations in English and German. Topics range from Ents and Elvish gardening to the significance of water in Tolkien’s world and the perspectives Middle-earth offers on the climate crisis. Pipe-weed and sustainable economic practices in the Shire are on the agenda, too. There is plenty to explore, so take a look through the programme and pick out your favourites.

Can’t make it to Augsburg? Then bring the seminar into your home! You can register for free online participation via Zoom on the new website. We will email you the access details in good time before the conference. There is no registration deadline for online participation. You will, however, have to supply your own tea and second breakfast.

If you would like to attend in person, please register by 4 October 2026 at 23:59 CEST. The website also has information about the social programme, travel and accommodation. Have a look, explore the programme and sign up. We look forward to three days of Tolkien with you in Augsburg and on screen!
