Thing 2010: Our guests

Our guest specials as of yet: Stephan Askani, Kim Skobvye.

Danish Tolkien Society »Bri.«

Bri (English: Bree) is a small town in Tolkien’s world, Arda. Lying at a crossroads, Bri is frequented by many people of all nationalities, which is the primary reason for the name of the society. We aim to offer people a good time held in a Tolkienesque spirit and to make all members feel at home, regardless of their Middle Earth alias.

Bri was founded in 1996 as members of the Danish online community Imladris and the now extinct Tolkiens Følge felt that Denmark lacked a society where members came together for various Tolkien-related activities such as banquets, discussions and guilds. Currently, Bri hosts two banquets each year as well as numerous other, smaller events, and also makes appearances at conventions, concerts and events related to Tolkien and fantasy in general. We are always happy to meet with Tolkien societies from other countries!

Bri regularly publishes a magazine in Danish called “Pipeurten” (Pipeweed). (Source: Society homepage.)

Caspar Reiff (Tolkien Ensemble.)

If you are into Middle-earth music you will have heard of the amazing Danish band sellling millions of their albums. Its founder, guitarist and singer Caspar Reiff will participate in the Thing and present some of their songs. If you don’t know the Ensemble yet have a look at their official video on YouTube.

Kim Skovbye.

Kim is a Danish harp virtuoso who has drawn inspiration for a lot of his music from Tolkien’s writings. He appeared at the Tolkien Society’s Oxonmoot and his great success made us invite him to the Thing so German fans can enjoy his wonderful work. Have a look at this video on YouTube.

René van Rossenbergs »Tolkienshop.«

Many, many years ago the only shop on this planet concentrating solely on all things Tolkien-related, the Tolkienshop in Leiden (Netherlands), received a letter from Newzealand. Somebody was talking about buying a lot of Tolkien books and the owner of the shop, René van Rossenberg, was more than happy to oblige. The order was sent by Peter Jackson. A few years later René would realise why…

René has been gracing the Thing since year one and is offering a great choice of collectables, memorabilia, books and more. He even comes up with a hilarious talk once in a while as he is the leading Tolkien expert in the Netherlands (as well as a translator). Not to forget anecdotes from his shop…

All translations done by Marcel Bülles. Any misinterpretations are his fault (especially with lecture and workshop titles!)
