The year will be dominated by the Hobbit: The 75-year anniversary of the children’s book’s first publication date will receive even more publicity through the release of Peter Jackson’s “Hobbit” film at the end of the year. The literary societies will accompany this exciting year with a whole host of exceptional events.

The first International Tolkien Day Germany/Netherlands in the CJD educational centre Castle Walbeck will form one of the highlights. Two regional meetings of regulars’ tables Geldern, Tegelen and Nijmegen in Geldern and Nijmegen will take place. And the year will be completed by a Hobbit Party in Castle Arcen. All events will feature programme in German and Dutch.

For the cross-border co-operation, the societies have filed for aids from the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg IV A Deutschland-Nederland programme. The project is accompanied by the programme management of the euregio rhein-maas-nord.

The DTG has organised more than 100 events over the last ten years and coordinates 200 regulars’ table meetings per year throughout the country. The author and his works are presented in a playful as well as sophisticated manner – with lectures, conferences, readings, games, exhibitions, workshops, live music, including useful information on J.R.R. Tolkien. Its events cater to all age groups, also to families.

Tolkien and fantasy enthusiast can look forward to an especially fantastic year 2012!

Also komm vorbei: Es lohnt sich immer!

Zum Welttag des Buches am 23. April 2006 fand im Gelderner Pfarrheim eine Lesung aus dem Buch Der kleine Hobbit statt. Der Rezitator und Seminarleiter der Europäischen Märchengesellschaft, Rolf Peter Kleinen, verstand es auf bezaubernde Weise die etwa 25 Besucher in die Welt von Mittelerde zu entführen.

Es war ein entspannter und gemütlicher Nachmittag, bei dem neben der Lesung Präsentationen verschiedener Herr der Ringe–Brettspiele, ein Games Workshop-Stand sowie eine Bücherecke zu Tolkiens Werken und eine zu Veröffentlichungen von und über Walter Scherf geboten wurden.

Desweiteren begeisterte die Band Horny Pixies mit viel Witz und toller Musik. Für jeden Gast gab es noch ein Geschenktasche, in der sich neben einer Ausgabe der Tolkien-Times diverse Flyer, Exemplare der Herr der Ringe–Spielkarten und eine Elbenfigur des Tabletop-Spiels befanden.

Natürlich war dank der legendären Hobbit-Küche für das leibliche Wohl bestens gesorgt. Ein ausführlicher Bericht erscheint im Flammifer von Westernis. Organisiert wurde die Lesung unter Leitung des DTG Stammtischs Linker Niederrhein, verantwortlich zeichneten die jungen und hochmotivierten ST-Koordinatoren Sebastian Kleinen und Phillipp Lessig.

»Im Koffer Percussions, Whistle, Flute, Bodhran, Mouthharp, Knopfakkordeon, Gitarre, Bass und Mandoline. Im Repertoire meist keltische Tunes aber auch Hiphop, blue notes und Cajun. Im Kopf nichts als Blödsinn, besonders die Herren scharf an der Grenze des ahns. Milder ausgedrückt : Wozu die Midlife crisis führen kann, ist hier direkt nachvollziehbar. Niemand ahnte, dass die Gruppe ihre Anschläge jahrelang in versteckten Katakomben vorbereitet hat. «
